Director Hired to Guide Development of New High School at FEV

A new alternative high school will begin classes this fall under the direction of Joe Klein, Licensed Professional Counselor. Blue Mountain School has contracted Joe to help expand upon its 30 year track record in early childhood and elementary education by launching the new high school at the Village Center facility. Klein has extensive knowledge and experience working with teens, parents and educators at local and regional levels.

The Blue Mountain High School (BMHS) at the Floyd EcoVillage will be a welcoming and inclusive place for teens from all backgrounds to receive a holistic, progressive, contemplative, and place-based education. The curriculum integrates academic disciplines with hands-on service learning and entrepreneurial projects that help build bridges of understanding between diverse individuals and families within the local community.

The whole person will be nurtured and developed within a learning community that cultivates a deeper sense of self-awareness, environmental awareness, critical thinking and wise decision making. This will be a school that empowers youth to live out a values-based and purpose-driven lifestyle which contributes to the well-being of themselves, others and the earth.
